Try to eat oily fish twice a week for the omega 3 and vitamin D benefits; mackerel, tuna, salmon, pilchards and herrings are good sources (not tinned tuna).  This will improve  brain function as well as prevent rickets (mal-formed bones). Mainly vitamin D is gained by being out in the sun; wear sunscreen to avoid skincancer.

Nuts, oily fish and omega 3 oil lowers the risk of age related blindness.  See above for types of fish; try good oil by Braham & Murray; it's for salad dressings and cannot be used in cooking.

Have you tried any goji berries?  They are sold dried in health food stores; best to re-constitute them for more flavour.   The Acai berry and yumberry have been shown to possess anti-oxidants that are easily absorbed, you can buy these in juice form to gain the anti-oxidant anthocyanin.  They lower risk of cancer, GI problems, wrinkles and heart disease

Advice

Eat plenty of tomatoes and red grapefruits during summer for the lycopene and carotenoid benefit. These offer some protection from ultra violet rays. Scientists also believe astaxanthin can protect from UVA and UVB light; the best source is salmon.

Don't follow the atkins diet if you are pregnant.  A new study, shows that children born to mums that ate excess meat whilst pregnant had high levels of cortisol (stress hormone).

Cheese is high in fat and salt but many of us love it and eat it too often.  Try to buy cheese made from yak milk; lower in saturated fat and so better for your heart.

Take care with......................

High Consumption of CALORIES, many of us simply eat too much.  Look out for food marked low-fat and look at the health wheel (red triangles are the bad ones).

Trans fats - commonly found in ready-made pies, biscuits and cakes are known to be bad for your arteries but researchers have just found that they make heart attacks more likely by speeding up the heart rate.

Salt - The government recommend that adults do not consume more than 6g per day.  Flavour your food with herbs and spices instead of adding salt.  Always taste food before automatically reaching for the salt cellar.  Those of you with high blood pressure should never add salt, the little you need is in bread, cheese, ready-meals etc. For more information and product recalls please go to the UK Government's Food Standards Agency web site.
